Historically, Pakistan has been a US ally. But the deteriorating relationship following the Afghan War, combined with Modi taking power in India and gutting the socialist tradition of the post-colonial state, has tilted us hard into their camp.
So it would be difficult for a competent administration to juggle the two rival powers. I have no idea how anyone thought Foam Party Marco and the anti-Woke state department was going to do more than alienated them both.
