I take it you’ve never seen a backwoods mosquito from the Boundary Waters or, god help me, Alaska.

Most of us don’t ever make enough money to travel this country’s hard-to-imagine-how-big-it-actually-is vastness, or even enough to leave our hometowns for longer than a couple days before financial woes start nipping at the mind, if not worse.
This is completely contradicted by the data:
“The average American has visited 16 states besides the one where they currently live, a new YouGov survey finds. Older Americans are likelier to have visited more states than younger Americans. 32% of Americans 65 or older say they’ve visited at least 30 states [. . .]” link
I’d totally get that for polling people outside of North America. It’s just shocking to see it from people who have probably been to NYC or at least another major metro area – which would instantly falsify a 30% number for NYC.
WTH, Americans think that 30% of the country lives in NYC?
Tiny little landmass filled to the brim with vainglorious people.
All the downsides of Comancho with absolutely none of the redeming qualities.
Living there and also maps existing.
This is real 5’11" energy bud.
I mean, yeah. Russia has been a Chinese vassal state since Covid.
Second smallest continent, behind even Antarctica.
It’s tiny my dude.
Europe’s understanding of the geography outside its tiny landmass is utterly laughable.
For the past 20 years, tech has promised to make things more efficient while making almost everything more complicated and less meaningful. Innovation, for innovation’s sake, has eroded our craftsmanship, relationships, and ability to think critically.
I feel this in my bones.
There is a longer history of dispute over this territory. Every time it has come up or been put forward for international determination, Guyana wins. However, I think that the added context does provide valuable background.
Seems like this comment could be asked of basically any post on Lemmy that even tangentially references politics, economics, or tech.
