thenose@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's something people incorrectly assume about your line of work and/or hobby?7·13 days agoI make good money. I have a masters in sound engineering and I work in IT. I enjoy both a lot and probably that’s why I make little out of them or im just shit lol
thenose@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What app/program do you wish existed and what does it do that you've not found elsewhere?4·13 days agoErsatz is this brilliant self hosted IPTV server that can do this. Any client (even a browser or your smart tv) can run it. Setting up the channels are a bit clunky but it’s well documented

thenose@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do you believe that the people should be able to have guns to protect themselves, or should the police have the sole authority to own and posess guns to protect the people?121·19 days agoIf i take a look at north eu countries where’s the lowest crime rates that im aware of. I can see that it’s really hard to get gun and it’s not for self defence. Also the police have a 2,5+ years training. If you compare it with the most gun loving country you see where the problem lies. Worth comparing the look and feel of prisons and the number of prisons per population. So yh that’s my view. Im from Hungary (pretty far right country for my mixed ass) lives in the UK different shit and stinks of a different odour lol
thenose@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's the most visually appealing phone you've had so far?2·27 days agoUtter nightmare. It doesn’t even lit the available letters in the dark. It’s just bad
thenose@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's the most visually appealing phone you've had so far?9·27 days agoMy old mate’s phone stuck with me for decades. Not sure if it’s pleasing but sure is something
Closest depiction AND sound design to what I dream when I’m dreaming.
Check out the Twin Peaks series. For me that’s the closest I’ve ever seen on screen
thenose@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What free things online should everyone take advantage of?3·1 month agoSounds pretty much like Searchxng actually sounds a tad bit more sophisticated
thenose@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What free things online should everyone take advantage of?2·1 month agoCheers very much. I was somewhat familiar with the concept (didn’t knew the abbreviation for it tho). But your explanation just made everything slide in their place. Thanks again
thenose@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What free things online should everyone take advantage of?101·1 month agoCan you break these two down for me please?
thenose@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•Firefox is dead to me – and I'm not the only one who is fed upEnglish1·1 month agoHard agree on most of these. Try searchxng regards the search bit. It’s a self hostable search proxy. It’ll use everything from bing to duckduck and the topics(eg map search images) are more relevant and specific (at least for me) it looks like the unshitified google era.
And ofc ladybird is far af but i think it’s something that we need right now
thenose@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•Firefox is dead to me – and I'm not the only one who is fed upEnglish81·1 month agoI’m in the same boat using Zen. Eagerly waiting on Ladybird to come out. They are writing it from the ground up not even a package being used according to them. Oh and this isn’t some rando this is a guy who done decades of coding(mostly browser) so my hopes are high as Snoop
thenose@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Is there a song in a foreign language you like the melody to but didnt know the lyrics?3·1 month agoI basically love city pop cus it has great groove, rhythm and usually the few English words in the lyrics reassuring me that it’s usually about love or a metaphor of it.

thenose@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Got any security advice for setting up a locally hosted website/external service?1·2 months agoI’m an absolute rookie here who listens to absolute pros and try to understand stuff. Here’s what Ive got: You don’t want to do this from your home network. Ideally you have a VPS running some entry level (unsure but my guess is you filter humans from bots )stuff then tunnel back things from there to your home network. You can use other solutions to do this (i think) like clouflared with a d. Also having a static ip as a consumer is rare afaik so unless you did specifically requested your ISP your ip might change the worst possible time (this im talking from experience lol) Oh and ofc the modern problems like the ai scrapers who’ll do 300 parse a sec if there’s any info for them to feed on. That’s all the scary stuff I could muster from memory and exp. I hope it helps and I’m not sure about any of this but I believe these are topics you could look up and educate yourself also feel free to correct me anywhere here
thenose@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•What editor or IDE do you use and why?English2·2 months agoHaha right? My first reaction exactly. Written in rust so that’s that. Oh forgot yo mention the collab features almost equally amazing
thenose@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•What editor or IDE do you use and why?English71·2 months agoI use Zed Yeah the agentic ai feature is nice and all but I don’t use it much. However the whole speed of it and the layout of the ui is very close to my heart eg.: native remote server connection or you can hide stuff away to be distraction free. Tldr.: feels nice, looks nice
Sajt. Funny enough sajt is my default test word eg.: is google working let me search for sajt
Lol. I keep telling my partner that I’m sharing my location data with her so don’t need to worry where I might be (Im pretty bad at reporting home unfortunately)
